Music Education Program
Community Arts Music Association (CAMA) offers a docent-led music appreciation program in local elementary schools and brings young student musicians, college students, and university students to CAMA concerts.
CAMA’s Docent Program in Elementary Schools: Music Matters
Since 2003, CAMA’s music education program has served local elementary school students in grades 3–6. Musicologist Dr. David Malvinni created the program’s systematic curriculum, initially titled A Classical Music Journey for Young People, which has evolved into Music Matters.
Students explore classical, jazz, and folk music traditions, while performances for school assemblies bring live music to the learning experience. Volunteer docents are trained to make monthly visits to participating schools and share the curriculum with students. Learn more about Music Matters and volunteer opportunities.
Other CAMA Programs in Music Education
CAMA’s Ticket Program for Young Students brings hundreds of students each year to selected CAMA performances. Students are invited in cooperation with local schools. Participants must be at least 12 years old and able to sustain attention in a concert setting.
CAMA’s Ticket Program for Young Students also partners with the UC Santa Barbara Department of Music and Westmont College to bring students to both the International Series at The Granada Theatre and the Masterseries at the Lobero Theatre.
